As January goes, so goes the year! Our January Cakery of the Month, Bread Art from Bayport, Minnesota, is starting the new year off right by celebrating with everyone’s favorite, chocolate chip cookies -- in the form of a cake!
Creative baker and Bread Art owner, Heather Peterson, believes the best way to warm up during the cold winter months in Minnesota is to serve a cake that’s familiar and is a heart warming tradition.
Heather shared, ”My six layer chocolate chip cookie cake decorated with white roses for winter is not only topped with a reminder that spring is coming but satisfies everyone when they come in from the ice and snow. Following a traditional chocolate chip recipe, it's baked in six round cake pans and layered with alternating chocolate and vanilla icing. I love adding the warmth of the candles wrapping around the cake with the Celebration Stadium, especially in the winter when it gets dark so early! "
Bread Art bakery is owned and operated by the Peterson’s, Chris and Heather. They opened the bakery in 2005 after Chris spent many years working as a pastry chef and Heather worked both as an administrative assistant for Land O’ Lakes and also within the restaurant industry. Now both owners are working in the bakery every day and come home to their four kids each evening. Chris’ love for creating pastries and Heather’s talent for designing wedding cakes and coming up with recipes for their breads keeps them busy year-round.
Want to meet the owners for yourself? If you find yourself in the scenic St. Croix river valley between Minnesota and Wisconsin, stop on by to smell the wonderful smell of fresh baked goodies, sit back and enjoy your treats at their hometown bakery.
