Nadia Cakes, Woodbury, MN: October Cakery of the Month

By Carey Ide, Co-Founder, Celebration Stadium

While searching for a bakery to celebrate my girlfriend’s birthday, the bright pink logo for Nadia Cakes called my sugar-loving curiosity right inside the front door to see what all the ‘pink’ was about. What I found was a sweet experience in Woodbury, Minnesota. This award-winning cupcake shop and custom cake bakery (with its cozy custom pink lounges that swirl like buttercream frosting), spoke to my palette.

Home to the winner of Food Network's Cupcake Wars (four of the country’s top cupcake bakers face off in three bake-offs to win $10,000) Nadia's famous cheesecake cupcake is still a first place prize for purchase in the display case. With a wide selection of freshly baked creative cupcake choices (and names!) like Chocolate Knight, Bacon & French Toast, Angry Fireball and Be My Lemontine, it was a tough competition to even choose between flavors.

One of a Kind Friend and Cake

Nadia Cakes was also featured on two seasons of TLC’s Fabulous Cakes which qualified them to help me create a milestone birthday cake for my friend. I wanted to give her a prized cake that reflected her bright, happy and sweet personality and Nadia Cakes delivered! This beautiful pink fondant with polka-dots and roses covering a vanilla bean cake with raspberry compote was stunning.  I knew it would be delicious because everything is baked on site, they use only fresh fruit, all-natural extracts and fresh butter.

I invited my friend to coffee at Nadia Cakes and surprised her with a candle per year on the Celebration Stadium and her favorite cake flavor.  I thought she would love the elegant chandelier and colorful decorations in the shop!

A Love for Baking

The owner and founder of Nadia Cakes, Abby Jimenez, opened her first bakery based on a lifelong passion for baking, a love for beautiful desserts, and on a complete leap of faith. While pregnant with her third baby, Abby learned the art of cake decorating by attending classes at a local craft store and started her home business in 2007 by giving away cakes to family and friends. The cakes were popular and so was demand. Abby opened her first cake shop in the fall of 2009. The new shop was so well received that just two months later, Carlos, Abby's husband quit his full-time job and joined the family business as CFO. In 2012 they moved the family to Minnesota and opened two more shops.

Abby and Carlos focus on building a quality staff with people like Erin Campbell, Woodbury, Minnesota, General Manager and long-time Nadia Cakes team member. Erin is also the winner of the Food Network's Holiday Baking Championship and a top five finalist on Food Network Star. Each pastry chef, decorator, and artist contribute to the quality, beauty, and excellent customer service at Nadia Cakes.

Batter-up your celebrations with all the right ingredients mixed together to create a memorable and photogenic celebration at Nadia Cakes!   P.S. In addition to her success as a bakery artisan and business owner, Abby is an accomplished author. Check out her new romantic comedy book The Friend Zone, now a USA Today Best Seller!
